Djokovic wants line judges replaced by technology

PARIS (Reuters) – Novak Djokovic’s relationship with line officials has been difficult of late and the Serbian risked their wrath again on Saturday when he suggested they were unnecessary.

The 33-year-old world number one was dramatically defaulted in the U.S. Open fourth round after inadvertently hitting a female line judge in the throat with a loose ball.

Clean technology projects line up bids for $1 billion EU support

(Reuters) – Clean technology projects are readying bids for a billion-euro support package from the European Union under a flagship scheme for funding breakthrough low-carbon technologies.

The EU Innovation Fund will support projects such as floating wind farms, carbon capture mechanisms and energy storage, all of which could help clean up sectors such as cement and steelmaking.

“These large-scale investments will help restart the EU economy and create a green recovery that leads us to climate neutrality in 2050,” EU climate chief Frans Timmermans said.

Oil major ConocoPhillips deploys low-code tech to boost bottom line

LONDON (Reuters) – ConocoPhillips has deployed a low-code platform called Mendix to cut costs and increase efficiency, making it the first major oil and gas producer to use such technology across the company, Mendix said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mendix, owned by German technology firm Siemens, allows companies to create in-house systems without hiring outside developers as minimal or no coding knowledge is required.

“It can be used by a rig manager in the middle of the ocean to someone in HR,” Jon Scolamiero, Mendix’s manager of architecture and governance of product marketing, said.
